Congratulations to Judge King! On November 18th, 1999, at 9am the entire courtroom was held spell bound as he recited his campaign speech. His countenance stern as he painted himself to be the lone defender of WV against the likes of Rob Springsteen. We were mesmerized. The camaraderie between himself and prosecutor Bill Forbes as he leaned way back in his chair, (Bill Forbes) and casually chatted during the proceedings, was touching. Very professional gentlemen. Im sure the Texas delegation was impressed. It's clear the judge and the prosecutor have and unique relationship to be envied by defense attorneys. How wonderful for us all! The family was particularly grateful for the three hours graciously given to place an appeal, though only a few moments were apparently necessary. The filing fee was only a few hundred dollars for the 15 minute scan given by the supreme court. Thanks to all!

We also want to thank Larry Parsons at the jail for his consideration. Though Rob requested a contact visit via appropriate written guidelines for South Central, somehow, he was denied that visit. An oversight, we're sure. Therefore, as the Staff Notice #013g posted on the wall of the jail suggests, a Special Visit was requested in writing on Tuesday November 16th before noon by faxed letter. In the letter, the reason given was the fear of Rob being sent to Texas without the benefit of a hug and encouragement from those who love him. Mr. Parsons said he did not receive that fax though the booking area where the document was received said they took it to his office upon receipt. Not wanting to believe the jail would adversely single us out I resent the letter before 9am on Wednesday the 17th. When no response came from Mr. Parsons, I called his office and he graciously agreed to "work us in" on Saturday, the 20th of November, two days AFTER the hearing date in Mr. Kings court. Even so, I felt we could hope to see Rob after the hearing while the supreme court was working ever so quickly to glance over the appeal before them, so we left the courtroom going to South Central to wait for Mr. Parsons. He must have been very busy at that time because after we waited for 30 minutes to talk to him, he, obviously annoyed, stated through the window, "Absolutely no visit! Absolutely not!!" turned and walked away. His courtesy was appreciated in such a moment. The jail itself continued to function at top efficiency in spite of our problems as Rob's bed had already been given to a new inmate and all his clothes and personal effects placed in a trash bag before the decision of the supreme court had been rendered.

Not leaving out the top official in the state, thanks goes to Governor Underwood's office or their special effort. The candlelight vigil, the dozens of letters sent by supporters and my own personal letter sent privately as to not become public record thereby hurting Rob's case, did not go unnoticed. Six weeks after my letter was sent, the office of the Governor did respond. I received a letter, not from Mr. Underwood, but from his counsel, stamped by the U.S. Postal service as being mailed on November 18th 1999. By coincidence, the same day as Rob's hearing before the judge. The best advice offered by the states highest office was to get a lawyer. Truly moving! Mr. Bob Wise managed to answer his copy of the same letter within a week of the date it was mailed and though he could not help at the State level, wished us well in our pursuit of justice.

Because of all the help we received from the system her in our home state of West Virginia, Rob in now in Texas held without indictment. Thanks again to all who helped him get there! I called the Travis County Jail long distance four different times yesterday to get information as to when I might be able to see my husband if I could arrange a loan. However, I was placed on hold all four times after giving his name and held a total of nine minutes. No one returned to that phone call. Rob has tried to get information from his counselor but he hasn't been able to get an appointment with that busy person either. His court appointed attorneys have said they would come by to talk to him twice but haven't quite made it yet and since Rob's alone in lock-down 23 hours a day, he hasn't been able to tell me much about the new rules there. I'm sure Texas will not be as righteous as WV was but they will surely be equitable, right? Our future President elect, George Bush is right there in Austin. He must guard against injustice and would never allow improprieties.

Rob is not guilty.

If you are looking for justice, don't look in the judicial system.
