Travis County Jail

The Travis County Jail visitation policy "used" to be that anyone traveling from further than 200 miles was entitled to a special visit - typically 50 minutes on Saturday and 50 minutes on Sunday.

Some of Robert's family and friends traveled from West Virginia and Ohio to attend the suppression hearing (6/1/2000-6/2/2000) and have their first opportunity to see Robert since October 1999.

Apparently, Travis County Jail officials changed the visitation rules [ed. actually, I think they were told to harass Robert and his family by the prosecutors] as special visits were denied.

Robert's attorney, Mr. Sawyer, spoke with Judge Lynch on Thursday (6/2/2000) about this denial and Judge Lynch cleared special visits over the weekend.

Monday afternoon, I received the following email from Robin, Robert's wife, after she returned home.

email dated 6-5-2000 approx 3:00 PM:

"Yesterday [ed. Sunday mornnig 6/4/2000] we were denied a visit because "the elevator was broken".

However, Charlene managed to get a 3-way call to her cell phone while we were in the airport and they [ed. someone at the jail] told Bert we declined the visit.

Then, while on the phone, Bert was told (at 11am) if we came back we could visit, knowing our plane left at 12:10, To their surprise, Im sure, we started running through the airport with Bert still on the phone.

When they discovered we were on our way, they once again said NO. We were not approved????

Bert screamed and yelled; I cried.

I called Leah and left a voice mail telling her what had happened. Hope that was not a mistake.

Charlene 3-wayed me in again this morning and Bert is OK.

All waiting for the results of the meeting today.

film at 11."
